Private Funds

Ecofin advises several private investment funds. Investments in such funds are only available to investors who meet certain eligibility qualifications. Strategies currently available seek to:

  • Generate attractive total returns with an emphasis on income intended to be "tax-advantaged" (income that by statute or structuring of a security is in part, or in whole, tax-reduced, tax-deferred or tax-free with respect to federal, state or municipal taxes). This strategy focuses on investment opportunities comprised typically of direct origination securities of issuers in the social infrastructure sector (generally including assets and services that accommodate essential services related to education, healthcare, housing, human service providers and other social services), and to a lesser extent non-direct origination securities.

Ecofin advises private investment funds in the United Kingdom. Investments in such funds are only available to investors who meet certain eligibility qualifications. Strategies currently available are:

  • Energy Transition Strategy: The strategy focuses on listed equity securities of global companies affected by the energy transition, i.e. an increasing drive towards clean energy generation, energy efficiency, technological advances and changes in energy policies. The strategy invests mainly in North America, Europe and Asia.

This strategy's team takes a sustainable approach to investing. They believe that adding a critical layer of ESG analysis to investment decisions, mitigating climate change-related tail risks and influencing corporate behavior by engaging with companies' management teams, will deliver the best risk adjusted returns.

  • Global Renewables Infrastructure Strategy: This impact strategy focuses on listed equity securities of global companies owning predominantly carbon-free electricity generating assets. In addition to decarbonizing the grid, these companies offer a stable dividend in addition to the possibility of strong capex driven growth. The underlying assets are typically fully contracted with high credit rated counterparties. This strategy focuses mainly in North America, Europe and Asia.

This strategy's team takes a sustainable approach to investing. They believe that adding a critical layer of ESG analysis to investment decisions and influencing corporate behavior by engaging with companies' managements, will deliver the best risk adjusted returns. In addition, there is a recognition that long-term ownership, informed by fundamentals, of renewable power generating assets will contribute to the transition to a clean carbon economy. The power generation sector accounts for 30% of global carbon emissions, is highly capital intensive, and therefore large corporate investment into renewable power generating assets is critical to achieving deployment plans needed. Increased renewable asset deployment leads directly to lower global carbon emissions.
